A German Documentary of a Fallen Eastland World War 2 Soldier
Out of 417,000 US soldiers who gave their lives in WWII, Die Ecke (The Corner), a 90-minute German produced documentary, tries to explain how one 19-year old’s sacrifice affected a small village in central Germany and how it continues to affect people all around the world.
Die Ecke features Robert Culverhouse, an Eastland native, and honors the memory and final moments of Robert Wynne, also an Eastland native.
The documentary explores a famous, and in some places, controversial photograph of a US soldier in the final days of WWII.
Die Ecke has been shown on German television channels, featured in a documentary film festival in Leipzig, Germany and many other places in Europe. It is a privilege to have the film shown in Eastland.
On September 17 at 2:00pm, Die Ecke will be shown for free at the Majestic Theatre in Eastland. [The majority of the film is in German but includes English captions.]
After the film there will be a short question and answer session with the producer of the documentary who will travel from Germany to Eastland for the event. From 4:00-6:00 pm, the Eastland County Museum will open for guests to view the Robert Wynne exhibit. The exhibit will feature many family heirlooms and WWII artifacts including Robert Wynne’s high school autobiography, letters sent home during the war, the official notice from the US Army that Robert had been killed, plus much more.
The Wynne (Hanna) family of Eastland invites you to join in viewing the documentary and exhibit on September 17, 2023.
